WASHINGTON (7News) — After several weeks of anticipation, the Yoshino cherry trees along the D.C. Tidal Basin reached peak bloom Friday morning, falling right at the start of the National Park Service's prediction.
Most of the day was filled with sunshine as thousands stopped or strolled along the 2.1-mile loop of the Tidal Basin to take in the first full day of peak bloom. National Park Service officials announced that a majority of the flowers on the basin's cherry trees had fully bloomed, though some flowers started to bloom last week near the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
People of all ages were out and about at around noon, many coming from outside of the DMV to observe the pink and white flowers.
Outside of appreciating the flowers, many stopped to listen to music by local performers, watched as artists painted the pink flowers, ate food from the nearby vendors, and more.
