Jade A. Lawson is a Multimedia journalist for 7News. She covers stories for 7News' online platforms and produces creative and distinctive content to make news digestible and tailored to social media audiences.
She began her journalism career at ABC News in New York working as a Production Associate for Good Morning America.
Soon after, Jade began reporting and producing day-to-day news for the network's digital team and contributing to primetime specials including ‘Soul of a Nation.’ She helped launch ‘On Location,’ a daily news show for Facebook focused on challenging misinformation ahead of the 2020 Presidential Election.
From New York City to the DMV, Jade’s work spans from politics to sports and everything in between including the 40th anniversary of the AIDS epidemic. She covered the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the abortion debate, and the 2022 racially motivated shooting in a Buffalo, New York grocery store. She chronicled the families of victims who were killed in the tragedy.
Jade’s work has earned accolades within the news media industry including an Emmy nomination and a Peabody Award nomination. She is also a 2x Webby Award honoree, a Columbia duPont and Edward R. Murrow Award winner, a 3x NABJ Salute to Excellence award winner, and an HBCU 30 under 30 recipient.
She has interviewed dozens of artists and high-profile celebrities and athletes such as Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Lopez, Sue Bird, Megan Thee Stallion, Angel Reese, and more.
Jade is a proud graduate of Hampton University and Columbia University School of Journalism and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina she loves the DMV and is excited to make it her home.
In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with family and friends, attending sports games, singing her heart out at a concert, and mentoring young professionals in the media.
Jade is looking forward to covering the streets of D.C. and its surrounding areas.
