Purpose of the Northwest Native Asset Building Coalition:
To help Native families develop positive financial skills that will result in home-ownership, pursuit of higher education, or the formation of a small business. Our Coalition works to link families with access to resources and training that will help achieve financial empowerment through budgeting, savings, investing, and retirement planning. Northwest Native Asset Building Coalition (NWABC) is comprised of individuals and organizations committed to helping native people gain the political and spiritual support to achieve their goals of homeownership, business ownership and college education.
Create healthy Native family financial goals:
Form a healthy and positive attitude with regard to money to assist Native families achieve the economic standing that will lead to setting new budget and spending goals, open up new economic opportunities and establish YOUR family security through financial success.
Achieve economic and program parity for our community:
Coalition partners found that resources in the affordable housing field are not reaching the Native population. The NW Native Asset Building Coalition is organizing the Native community around a common goal of working together to access housing resources.
Create visibility for a population that is invisible to mainstream providers:
Because Native people are scattered and fragmented throughout the Seattle/Tacoma Metro area and the State, we have been left out of the affordable housing movement. In 2005, the first Financial Resource Fair was organized to link all Northwest Natives with key resources and to start organizing the movement. We held another successful Financial Resource Fair in 2006 and gained direct feedback to close the gaps in services for Native Families. NWABC is a fun, positive, self-help network open to all community members willing to invest time & energy!
