First Alert Weather is on STORM ALERT as an approaching weather maker is set to bring a line of strong thunderstorms Monday night. Expect moderate rain and frequent lightning. There is a chance of lingering showers into Tuesday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has a majority of the 7News viewing area under a "slight" risk (2 out of 5) for strong to severe storms, along with a newly added "enhanced" risk far west.

The latest futurecast shows thunderstorm activity within the Capital Beltway around 10 p.m.

Behind this system, very windy conditions will move in. Northwest winds will be sustained throughout Tuesday between 15 and 25 mph, with gusts anywhere from 30 to 50 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for parts of the DMV Tuesday.

Wednesday wind gusts will range from 25-30 mph with easing winds by Wednesday night. Thursday morning will be the coldest of the week with wake-up temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s. Patchy frost will be possible in our far western suburbs Thursday morning.

Another warming trend is in store heading into the Easter weekend.
