WASHINGTON (TNND) — Stephen Miller, the Homeland Security Advisor for the White House, is ‘appalled’ with Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen after he traveled to El Salvador this week to meet with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was mistakenly deported.
“His heart is reserved for any illegal alien who’s a member of a foreign terrorist organization,” he said, “I am beyond appalled.”
Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran national who was granted protection status by an immigration judge in 2019. He was stopped by ICE officers on March 12 and was told that his immigration status had changed.
According to court documents, Abrego Garcia was questioned about MS-13 gang affiliations and transferred to a detention center in Texas after he was detained.
Attorneys said Abrego Garcia fled gang violence in El Salvador more than a decade ago and was able to be identified by his wife in a photo of detainees entering intake at the notorious mega-prison CECOT.
Both President Trump and President Bukele have repeatedly stated they would not return Abrego Garcia to the U.S. despite a Supreme Court ruling and several federal judges' rulings that urged the federal officials to facilitate his return.
Sen. Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador to try and meet with Abrego Garcia as well as try to facilitate his return.
Miller believes that Van Hollen should be focusing on his own constituents, specifically Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of 5 who was brutally murdered by Salvadoran national Victor Martinez-Hernandez.
“How broken is that man's heart? How broken is his conscience, that he doesn't have even an ounce of empathy or time or concern to share with those families,” Miller said.
Morin’s mother, Patty, joined a White House press briefing on Wednesday as a special guest to share the gruesome details of how her daughter was murdered by an illegal immigrant.
Patty called out Sen. Van Hollen for “barely acknowledging her daughter” and “the brutal death she endured” while he was flying to El Salvador "to show solidarity” for Abrego Garcia.
"Rachel Morin was viciously beaten, brutally raped and murdered. And her mother never even got a phone call from Senator Van Hollen. None of those people elicit human sympathy from Senator Van Hollen,” Miller said outside of the White House, “That is who the Democrat Party is going to provide aid, solace, and comfort to, not to Senator Van Hollen's own constituents like the Morin family."
