The Coalition successfully recruited an AmeriCorps volunteer to coordinate local efforts. In addition, the Coalition is developing 90 minute financial education workshops for low-income community members with time constraints covering the following topics:
- Making Ends Meet
- Budgeting and Saving
- Hands-On Banking
- Building, Repairing, and Protecting Credit
These and a monthly six-hour financial education class on Saturdays (Finance Smart) will be available in English and Spanish and are free resources taught by local experts recruited by the Coalition.
In addition, we promote local, free tax preparation sites in Clark County and offer free online resources for low-income people to prepare their own taxes at a centrally located site.
Our Bank-On Clark County subcommittee is working to establish an online presence to help educate the community about unbanked clients’ needs and issues as well as available financial products and services.
We are also working to increase the numbers of IDAs available in the community.
Finally, we are developing marketing materials to promote the goals of the Coalition.
